ON PROGRAMME DELIVERY

  • Typically 36 months duration, not including EPA period.

  • Minimum 6 hours per week recorded off the job training.

  • Complete agreed training programme to gain the required level of knowledge and skills.

  • Achievement of English and Maths level 2.

  • Achievement of Level 3 Diploma in Installing Engineering Construction Plant and Systems.

  • Completion of portfolio of evidence.

GATEWAY

  • Achieved a minimum level 2 English and Maths.

  • Satisfactory completion of the training plan agreed with the apprentice by the employer.

  • Sufficient evidence in the form of a portfolio to allow the apprentice to consistently demonstrate knowledge, skills and behaviours as described in the
    standard.

  • Employer satisfied that the apprentice is consistently working at or above the required level of occupational competence.

  • Employer, training provider and EPAO agree EPA process.

SKILLS

  • 8-hour practical observation.

  • One holistic pipefitting task where the Apprentice must work to the tolerances and specifications stated in an engineering drawing to fabricate, assemble, install, test, and then dismantle a piping assembly.

  • Observed and managed by an independent assessor.

  • 55% weighting towards final grade.

  • During the test the assessor can question the apprentice to ascertain the breadth
    and depth of their underpinning knowledge.

  • Pass, Merit and Distinction available.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Conducted under exam conditions.

  • 50 multiple choice knowledge questions.

  • 60% pass mark.

  • 35% weighting towards final grade.

BEHAVIOURS

  • Assessed during a structured professional review.

  • 90-minute duration.

  • The professional review will assess the KSBs as specified in the standards.

  • Portfolio of evidence can be used to support the professional review.

  • 10% weighting towards final grade.

OCCUPATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT

  • Observation, knowledge test and professional review must all be passed to achieve EPA.

  • Minimum of 60% required in observation, knowledge, and professional review to achieve a pass grade.

  • FInal grade awarded:

    • Fail (below 60%)

    • Pass (60% plus pass in all 3 elements)

    • Merit (70% plus minimum of 2 merits)

    • Distinction (85% plus minimum of 2 merits and 1 distinction)

  • Results released following internal quality assurance.

  • Certification applied for from the ESFA and forwarded to the employer.
